Rotterdam, April 22, 2020 – HEBO Maritiemservice has acquired, through real estate entity HEBO Greenport Rotterdam, the site including water and the buildings of the former shipyard of Niehuis & Van den Berg in Rotterdam Pernis from Damen Shipyards.

HEBO Maritiemservice had been looking for water-related expansion opportunities for some time because of the growth of activities in the Rotterdam port area and the company’s close collaboration with the Port of Rotterdam Authority. Current tenants, including Damen Shiprepair Van Brink Rotterdam, NKT Cables, Rijkswaterstaat Zee en Delta and Qargo Packers, will remain active at the location.

The property sold, which has been in use as a shipyard since 1823, is strategically located with an open connection to the sea and hinterland. The total location, which Damen Shipyards has owned since 1987, comprises more than 9 hectares of land and 12 hectares of water, 860 meters of slope, ten jetties with lengths up to 280 meters, various berths for dry docks and eight industrial halls. The location offers space for outfitting, conservation and storage of onshore and offshore infrastructure with lifting capacity up to 800T and roll-on-roll-off facility up to 5,000T.

HEBO Greenport Rotterdam
HEBO Greenport Rotterdam will significantly optimize, further develop and exploit the location. In consultation with Port of Rotterdam, more than a third of the site will be sustainably redeveloped over the next ten years, including the construction of several company buildings and ship repair facilities. Existing buildings on the site will be renovated and made more sustainable, and halls will be built for the construction and repair of mega yachts.

In order to better reach the location, new connections with water bus and water taxi will be created. There will also be shore power facilities and solar charging points for electric vessels and projects that contribute to plastic collection, oil removal and incident response.

Damen Shipyards was commercially advised on the sale of the site by Cushman & Wakefield in collaboration with Industrial Real Estate Partners. HEBO Greenport Rotterdam received legal advice from AKD on the purchase and was commercially assisted by BRiQ real estate.
